After working in the business world for 25+ years and being a Professional Certified Coach for more than 20, Lisa has discovered the core skills required for effective leadership.

She’s managed teams, owned her own companies, been the youngest and only female partner/board member in a national firm and written 5 books on leadership. As an executive coach, she’s coached thousands of leaders across hundreds of organizations. 

Lisa was an early adopter of coaching (PCC, 2003), helped spark the work-life balance movement in 2004 with a best-selling book, has designed and delivered hundreds of leadership development programs in-person and virtually, and created her first coaching skills course in 2015.

With The Coach-Like Leader™, she is dedicated to bringing critical coaching skills to more organizations across the globe.

The Coach-Like Leader Origin Story

A few years ago, I began to notice a real pain point in the coaching industry. Conventional 1:1 coaching wasn’t having a big enough impact organization-wide. It wasn’t building individual and organizational coaching capacity nor significantly impacting culture. 

So in 2015 I did some testing and created a half-day workshop called Coaching Fundamentals which I ran in many organizations, training hundreds of leaders to add coaching skills into their day-to-day leadership. That workshop got rave reviews and we saw leaders changing how they led and moved their teams forward.

But there was still one key challenge —sustaining that coach-like behavior for the long term.

The reality was that Coaching Fundamentals was only a 3-hour workshop. It didn’t give leaders the dedicated practice time needed to add coaching skills to their personal leadership style, nor provide organizations with the resources to build sustainable coaching cultures.

I knew there had to be a better way for organizations to implement coaching skills training that was sustainable and scalable with a high ROI.

And that was when the idea of The Coach-Like Leader™ was born: practical, proven coaching skills programs built around our philosophy – practice makes progress.  

The reality is that COVID has changed how we work permanently, which means the skills our leaders need are also changing.

Now more than ever, leaders need to be agile and adaptive so they can inspire their people to be and do their best AND keep up with all the challenges thrown their way every day, whether that be mastering leading in the hybrid workplace, keeping team members engaged, or shedding outdated management techniques and replacing them with modern leadership skills.

When we teach people leaders how to be more coach-like, it improves their ability to practice empathetic curiosity and lead their teams better. 

I’ve made it my mission to double the coaching capacity of organizations we work with by helping them significantly boost the number of coach-like leaders in their ranks and build collaborative coaching cultures that drive improved engagement, retention and results for the long term.
